White House says coronavirus death total could be between 100,000 to 240,000

Several days ago, the White House extended their coronavirus guidelines through the end of April. That announcement was seen as a realization that the current outbreak of COVID-19, a novel coronavirus, would continue to worsen in the weeks ahead.

Yesterday, officials at the White House announced how bad the deadly virus could be. According to the Washington Post, the "The [coronavirus] task force projects 100,000 to 240,000 deaths from the virus, with mitigation."

The Post also reports that "Deborah Birx and Anthony S. Fauci, the leaders of the White House task force, emphasized that although the projection of 100,000 to 240,000 deaths were likely, they were hopeful that they could prevent such a high number by adhering to strict mitigation protocols."

That prediction makes it clear that this country hasn't faced the worst of this pandemic yet. As of this writing, over 4,000 Americans have died from the coronavirus , according to USAToday.com. There have been over 40,000 deaths around the world.

For the last several weeks, a number of states have issued stay-at-home orders to prevent the growth of this virus. However, a few states have held back despite the growing pandemic. The Governor of Florida, for instance, hasn't issued such an order despite the growing number of cases in the state
